Action Alert: IDOT Infrastructure Listening Tour

April 27, 2015

Speak out to support Illinois' investment in Open Spaces and Sound Transportation

Tell the Illinois Department of Transporation and Governor Rauner to Invest in Open Space and an Alternative to the Illiana Tollway at stops on the Statewide Listening Tour.

Over the next month, please attend a meeting near you and share these important points.

  • We need to fund transportation projects that support good land use planning and improve rather than degrade our natural and cultural heritage. The State should first fix its crumbling roads and bridges, rather than sink billions into boondoggles like the Illiana Tolllway.
  • The State should invest in a network of natural land and water that will enhance parks and forest preserves, benefit wildlife habitat, expand recreational opportunities, and generate economic return. In 2014, the Trust for Public Land found that every $1 investment in parks and natural resources returns $4 in economic value.
  • The State should shelve the Illiana Tollway as a fiscally irresponsible black hole that intensifies land use conflicts, saddles tax payers with debt, and offers a poor solution to moving freight. Instead, we call upon the State to invest in true public private partnerships that respect both farms and freight, honor our veterans, and preserve our globally imperiled landscapes.
