CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER - Autumn Bird Hike at the Openlands Lakeshore Preserve

September 10, 2014 | 7:30-9am

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER. Please keep tabs on our event calendar for the next Autumn Bird Hike!

Join us for an early morning bird-watching hike at the Openlands Lakeshore Preserve! Well-known birder Donnie Dann of the Bird Conservation Network will guide us as we look for autumn resident and migratory species. While birds are a little less active and flashy this time of year than they are in spring, the Preserve offers opportunities to see many species of woodpeckers and songbirds.

Meet at the Patten Road parking lot, located immediately south of 24260 N. Patten Road, Highland Park. For directions and a map, visit the Preserve information page

Please bring your own binoculars and enough water to last you for your visit; there are no drinking water facilities at the Preserve. Comfortable walking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and sun and/or insect protection are recommended. The program will be held even if conditions are lightly rainy. We will be walking along mostly paved trails for about 1.5 miles total, and we may ascend or descend staircases along the way.

This is a free adult program and registration is required. To register, please send an email to or call 815-701-1999.
