Spring 2012 BUGs classes begin January 28

Building Urban Gardens (BUGs) equips city-based community and backyard gardeners with the knowledge and hands-on training necessary to plant and grow organically. Spring 2012 BUGs classes begin January 28.

Taught by experts in the field, this six-week course details topics such as:

  • Planning and Designing Your Ecological/Organic Garden
  • The Basis of an Organic Garden: Healthy Soil and Composting
  • Vegetables for Your Beautiful, Edible Garden
  • Perennials and Herbs for Diversity and Flavor!
  • Insects and Weeds: A Place for Everything & Everything in its Place
  • Container and Raised Bed Gardening.

Additionally, completion of the BUGs course enables you to join a citywide corps of volunteer gardeners who care for community spaces throughout Chicago.  Our 2012 BUGs classes start January 28 at the Garfield Park Conservatory. Openlands thanks the Dr. Scholl Foundation for its support of this program.

For more information about the class and to register, please contact Openlands Community Outreach Coordinator Julie Samuels via e-mail or by phone at 312-863-6256.
