Neighborhood Open Space Planning

Boost your neighborhood's curb appeal with a community-wide plan for street trees, corner flower gardens, parks on vacant lots, and more.

Openlands' Neighborhood Open Space Planning focuses on underserved urban communities with limited access to public open space and partners with neighborhood leaders to assess, plan for, and build long-term stewardship for community-managed green spaces.

The goal of such plans is to establish a meaningful voice in the local decision-making process and positively impact other community goals, such as affordable high-quality housing, improved schools, healthy local businesses, and public safety. Openlands Community Greening has developed and carried out open space plans in the following neighborhoods:

  • Austin
  • North Lawndale
  • Humboldt Park
  • East Garfield Park
  • Pilsen
  • South Deering
  • Fuller Park
  • Englewood (in process)

Openlands supplements its Neighborhood Open Space Planning efforts with the Neighborhood Youth Garden Corps (NYGC) and Building Urban Gardens (BUGs).
