Creating Tomorrow's Green Region celebrates the 21 Green Legacy Projects of the Burnham Plan Centennial, detailing progress made on each throughout the year and highlighting the steps needed to preserve, protect, and expand the region's green infrastructure. When we preserve open space, we preserve the quality of life that makes our region so attractive—culturally, ecologically, and economically. Since 1963 Openlands has been working hard to ensure cleaner air and water, safeguard natural habitats and wildlife, and help balance and enrich people's lives. To date we've protected over 55,000 acres throughout northeastern Illinois and the surrounding region.
