Transportation and Transit

Openlands supports funding for mass transit and transportation alternatives that promote smart, managed growth without damaging valuable natural resources in northeastern Illinois and the surrounding region.

For example, Openlands continues to recommend a local-road alternative to the proposed Prairie Parkway, a new four-lane highway that will cut through prime farmland and beautiful natural areas in western Kane and Kendall Counties. Improving and widening the existing road grid would provide better traffic relief and inflict less damage on pristine wetlands and waterways, such as Big Rock Creek and Aux Sable Creek.
