Land Trust Alliance Honors Openlands with National Land Trust Excellence Award

October 29, 2015

Openlands was proud to be honored with a Land Trust Excellence Award “for its collective accomplishments across more than 50 years” at Rally 2015: The National Land Conservation Conference in October. The conference was hosted by the Land Trust Alliance, a national land conservation organization that represents over eleven hundred land trusts and five million members nationwide.

"Openlands is deeply grateful to be recognized as a national leader by the Land Trust Alliance," said Openlands President and CEO Jerry Adelmann. "In so many respects, Openlands has come to measure success by the number of people we engage, not only the number of acres saved. The magic is that engaging people and conserving acres yields results that are truly enduring and far exceed the sum of the parts."

“We find inspiration in the good works of our peers in land conservation,” said Rand Wentworth, the Alliance’s president. “And the inspiration we find in these award winners gives us renewed motivation and purpose. In a plethora of ways, communities across our nation have been made better thanks to these conservation champions. We are proud of — and humbled by — their accomplishments.”

Openlands was nomintated for the award by Lisa Haderlein, Executive Director of The Land Conservancy of McHenry County and John Sentell, President of Lake Forest Open Lands.
