Monthly Lunchtime Tree Walk: “Monocultures and Flower Baskets”

September 7, 2016 | 12:30 - 2:30pm

Not only do trees help improve the commercial corridors both economically and ecologically, but so do floral hanging baskets. However, without proper planning, some trees harbor mites and aphids that find certain annuals a smorgasbord of culinary delight.

An experienced forester will be guiding a tour of the parkway trees and greening alternatives for the urban clime.  See how the relationships of sucking pests and their host plants dictate the use of systematic diversity both at the tree level and at the floral design level to make for successful urban greening and greater parkway tree diversity.

Topics covered:

  • Past and Present
  • Systematic Diversification
  • Identification References
  • Surroundings and context clues
  • Patterns and branching
  • Habit and Identification
