Movie and Sustainability Festival at Jens Jensen Preserve

August 28, 2014 | 6:30pm

Join Openlands as we celebrate our restoration efforts at the Sustainability Festival at Jens Jensen Preserve (Deer Grove East), put on by the Forest Preserves of Cook County. In addition to honoring the life and work of pioneering conservationist and landscape architect Jens Jensen, Openlands staff members Joe Roth and Linda Masters will be leading tours of the restoration work completed at the preserve. In collaboration with our partners, Openlands has successfully removed invasive vegetation in the area and replaced it with native grasses and wildflowers, helping to reinvigorate the site's ecological health and restore it to its native condition. We are proud to share our efforts with you!

The festival will offer a number of programs and activities for people of all ages, and will be a great place to learn about local ecosystems from native plant experts. Come explore the outstanding ecological resources the preserve has to offer, and join us in the conversation on how to enhance and improve it!

The festival will begin at 6:30pm, with a showing of the biopic "Jens Jensen - The Living Green" beginning at dusk. Feel free to pack a picnic, or grab something from one of the on-site food trucks, and join us for an evening of fun and entertainment at this absolutely beautiful location. The night will culminate in a discussion with the filmmaker.
