Bill Clarkin, Vice President, BMO Harris Bank. Prior to this role, he was Director, Sales Management, for Harris Commercial Banking. Bill started with BMO Financial Group in the Office of Strategic Management. Before joining BMO Financial Group, Bill worked in a variety of consulting roles in banking strategy, program management, and technology. Bill was one of the founders of Jackson LaSalle Group, a consulting firm later sold to Novantas. A graduate of Indiana University with a degree in business—computer information services, Bill earned his MBA at University of Chicago. He also serves as a board member for the Kidswork Children’s Museum in Frankfort, Illinois.
“I have a passion for the environment,” says Bill. “It comes from my belief that we should conserve our resources. I believe in fiscal responsibility, and that conservative belief extends to our responsibility for the environment. When I learned about Openlands through the support provided to the organization by BMO Harris Bank, I became interested in working on projects with them.
“I’m an avid cyclist. Some of my favorite places to be outside in the Chicago region are the Palos mountain biking trails. I’ve ridden many of the single track trails there. I raced competitively in college, and I still enjoy being on a long ride. Cycling is good ‘me time.’ It helps me stay fit and clear my head.
“Cycling is also something I can share with my wife. Several years ago, we participated in a century ride—a 100-mile bike ride completed in under 12 hours—at Zion National Park to fight breast cancer. I’ve done three or four more century rides since then, the most recent last year in Michigan.
“My entire family enjoys being outdoors in this region. My wife runs marathons, and my sons love playing sports, particularly baseball. One of my sons is in Boy Scouts and the other is in Cub Scouts, so we also do a lot of camping.”
