Michael Dugan

Michael Dugan brought his passion for protecting and enhancing urban green spaces to Openlands in 2014. As the Director of Forestry, Michael leads strategies and Openlands Forestry programs to educate and engage people to protect, maintain, and grow Chicago region’s trees, forest connectivity, and canopy cover. Previously working for the Natural Resources Group of the New York City Parks Department, he led community groups and volunteers in natural area stewardship and urban forestry projects, as well as performing forest restoration in support of the MillionTreesNYC Initiative. Michael has also spent time as a gardener and environmental educator. Michael earned his B.A. in Environmental Studies from the University of Washington and is part of the International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist and Municipal Specialist (IL-9278A).
