Volunteering and Events

Openlands’ forestry team is always in need of volunteers to assist with community greening. Listed here are the upcoming TreeKeepers events, tree plantings and prunings, and tree ID walks. If you are interested in attending an event, please be sure to register in advance!

  • Tree Walk in Evanston, Sunday, May 12
    May 12, 2019 2:00 PM Join TK Allison Sloan, New York Botanical Garden-certified field botanist, for a Mother's Day tree walk in Evanston. Learn characteristics that help identify most common street trees during the winter, investigate which oaks are part of Illinois' native oak savanna ecosystem, and discover which trees had relationships to Ice Age megafauna.   Walks in Evanston take place on the second Sunday of every month in rain, shine or snow, so dress for the weather.  Read more »

  • Individual Volunteer Hours
    Dec 14, 2016 12:02 AM This service project is a place for Openlands volunteers to log hours they've spent volunteering on an individual basis. This could include pruning, planting, general tree care, and advocacy.   To add hours, simply log into your CERVIS account, select "Individual Volunteer Hours" under "Service Projects", and let us know what you've been up to!
